Oh God, Not Another F%## “Life’s a Journey” Post!

It seems that everyone and their brother have a post about how life is a journey, you have to enjoy the journey, the journey is the thing, not the destination. Journey, journey, journey.

Vomit.

I’m sick of them. I’m sick of everyone reiterating all the same nonsense without any real explanations on how to enjoy the friggin’ journey.

You know the ones right? They tell you that you have to stop and smell the roses, or take a moment to reflect on the things that are important to you. But you know what they don’t do? They don’t ever give you the tools on how to do that.

It’s the same with all these internet marketing “gurus”. (self-styled as gurus by the way, that’s why i’m only giving them a small “g”. so there)

They go on and on about how you can make bizzillions of dollars on the internet. Their “free” videos are full of such rhetoric as “It’s so easy! If you’re not doing it it’s because you’re lazy and weak” or other such drivel designed to tap into your insecurities about providing for your family or being successful.

I think the thing that annoys me the most about these sorts of sites is that they promise wealth, freedom and, by association, happiness beyond your wildest expectations but they really tell you nothing.

Now, I’m not planning on using this blog to continually sing the praises of Melanie Milletics but I am going to do it on this post…again…and I’ll tell you why.

Yesterday I posted “Mel Milletics is my new BFF” and it was a big hit. In fact, by mentioning her name in the title I upped my readership by about 500% yesterday. (thanks Google analytics for tracking that for me :)

I posted my blog entry on Facebook and on Twitter and BAMB! Traffic!

Melanie read my post too! :) Like I said, she’s pretty awesome.

Wanna know what her only comment was? Do you? I bet you do? (look, I can write seductive sales copy too!!!)

She was concerned because I had not included my affiliate link so that I could benefit from the traffic that I had just driven to my blog.

Maybe I’m not making myself clear here. She actually gives a shit that this post I wrote about her, because I’m so impressed with her ability to make me feel like I’m going to be really successful and help me conquer that nasty-assed little voice in my head, was not taking advantage of the traffic.

Umm, I think that’s pretty amazing.

It was definitely a rookie mistake to not include an affiliate link from here to there. I think that anyone who is, even a little bit, interested in internet marketing ought to check out her sponsoring success site.

Here’s my affiliate link. If you want to check it out, go through me and we’ll keep track of the millions I make!  ha ha.

Be gentle, as this is my first kick at the affiliate can.

Also, before the end of the day I will be posting on why reading the stuff from Mel is how I built this site…In 4 hours. (but i’ll get into more detail. sometimes it’s a curse to type so quickly!)

Melanie Milletics is my new BFF!

Melanie Milletics is my new BFF. No kidding. She’s wicked cool, looks great, mommy of 2 great kids, smart as a whip and, best of all, ridiculously giving in her knowledge.

Here’s the Cole’s Notes version of my last year so that I can “set up” why MM is now my BFF.

In the middle of my separation, prior to a signed agreement, I lost my great job as a Recruiter at a video game company. A job that gave me rock star status among my kid’s friends and was a ton of fun to boot.

Skip ahead a few months to the running out of the severance package but before Employment Ins kicked in. I was freaking out. My ex had lost his very VERY!!!! high-paying job (that he got the day after we broke up. Great timing Jac) and was working for a fraction of his former salary. Add to that the fact that he had a massive debt he had to clear and BAMB, I was left with nada.

We had to sell the house in the worst, and I mean WORST housing market in about 200,000 years. I now drive my equity around in a 2001 Volvo. Don’t get me wrong, I love the car but a few extra debt-reduction bucks would not have gone unappreciated.

After the sale of the house the cash was tied up for a while so the girls and I took advantage of a friend’s hospitable offer to move into her back cottage. (no water, no toilet, just a room but a roof was better than a tent in my book) The great irony was that we had a hot tub just outside the door. Shabby chic much?

Anyway, I wasn’t idle in my unemployment. I was online every, single day searching for ways to make money and not have to commute the 45 min to Vancouver. (no one was hiring Recruiters anyway, everyone was laying off everyone else, the last thing they needed was a Recruiter)

While searching for online activities I still scoured Craigslist and other job sites to find something but there was nothing, or at least, nothing anyone would hire me to do.

Since I was broke I couldn’t afford the several grand that most internet marketers were charging for mentoring someone new. Honestly, it felt like a big, exclusive club that I could not, for the life of me, break into.

And I worked it too. Every day I spent hours trying to figure out how to monetize my love of the net. I’m a natural salesperson, I write well, I love people, and not for nothin’, I’m bloody smart. Why couldn’t I figure it out?

Eventually I got a job that I really love and I stopped my hunt for an online career figuring it was one of those pipe dreams and that really no one made a living online.

The job I do now is awesome. It envelopes all the things that are important to me; my community, local food production, environmentalism etc. Don’t tell my boss this but I’d probably do it for free if I were in a position to do so. (shhhh!)

However, it’s a contract and, as such, could end with little warning. A notion that scares the bejesus out of me.

I need something that I am in control of. Something that will yield in proportion to my effort. Something that will allow me to stay home with the kids yet afford to travel with them, to buy an environmentally friendly house.

Enter Melanie. I found her when a friend suggested I look at her Sponsoring Success “how to set up a blog” video and pdf. In less than 4 hours I had my blog all set up and running beautifully. (this is it btw ;)

It was awesome! She told me how to do everything, made it super clear and essentially got me writing which is something I’d always wanted to do.

Intrigued by this FREE information (and it is free, no joke, no bullshit. free, free, free) I went and took a closer look at Mel’s site. Wow, it’s awesome.

The point of this article is that I don’t care if you believe you can make cash from the net or not. I don’t. I do however, think that if you want to know how all of those internet marketers work and what you’d be paying for if you joined up with one of them, you really ought to read her stuff first.

Why? Cuz it’s FREE! Sheesh, haven’t you been listening?

I definitely want to be Mel M when I grow up!

If your interest has been piqued, check out Melanie’s site at http://www.sponsoringsuccess.net/. I’m really glad I did.

I Wanna Be a Billionaire…So Freakin’ Baaaaad

Ok, that’s not really true. I don’t want to be a billionaire at all. In fact, a quasi-millionaire would suit me just fine.

I don’t need to be on the cover of Forbes Magazine smilin’ next to Oprah and the Queen. I’m not a monarchist. What do I care about the Queen?  And really, what would we talk about anyway?

Me: “Nice crown”

Queen: “Ehmmm, I like your shoes.”

Really?

I do, however, like most people want to live a comfortable life. I often think about what I’d do if I won the lottery. Don’t we all?

This coming week the lottery in Canada (called Super Max) is somewhere around $90 million. Which is crazy huge for us. We don’t have powerball or anything here so $90 mil is a purdy penny.

Even though I buy the tickets I have come to believe, over time, that winning the lottery is likely not something I can rely on for my retirement years. Neither do I think that my kids will become professional sports players and set me up for life.

The only real fall back plan is the demise of my parents. (shut up! don’t tell me you’ve never thought of that! Even Stuart Copeland wrote about it in one of his books. I think he called it something like “kill them off and slice the pie”. Which, while morally reprehensible, is something that people think about.

That said and since I’d like my parental units to stick around for quite some time I don’t think I should rely on this as a way to buy a house, go on vacations, pay of debt etc.

So, what to do?

As with so many people, I want to make money from the internet. There are ways to do it. Lots of ways. Lots of the stuff you read are scams. It’s taken me a long, long time to find something that interests me enough to actually sink a bit of money into exploring.

Starting tomorrow I’m going be getting up at 7am so I can put 2 hours/day toward my new venture. Based on everything you hear about MLM, 2 hours/day should be sufficient to get the ball rolling.

I’m looking forward to it. I like to work. Especially if the kids are in bed and I’m not taking time away from them.

I’m going to be posting…A LOT! about this new world I’m about to enter. I have to actually start a new category just for MLM so, at some point, people can follow along from the beginning to the mad success story that comes from this.

(ever the optimist!)
